Overview

Chitranatya

Chitranaatya is basically a dance institution but it is not just that. It is not just another dance class. It is an institution, more precisely a cultural centre with a vision. A vision which says: "Art for all, art for change".

Yes. Chitranaatya dreams to bring about change in the society through art. The evils of the society have to be fought in many ways. Chitranaatya believes in art for this fight, Fight against Inequality, Fight against Consumerism, Fight against Corruption, Fight against Pollution. Through imparting socially responsible dance, music, literature this institution dreams to contribute to build a better society for all of us.

HOW DOES CHITRANAATYA DO THIS?

At the outset by teaching the techniques of Bharathanatyam and Classical music to students at very nominal cost, Chitranaatya gives them the tools. Then songs and dances are composed for very relevant themes like environment protection, dowry problem, gender inequality etc. The students while learning itself absorb the values of the institution. Changing the society for the better through art.

One example for this activity is Bhavanruthya and dance-dramas promoted by this institution. Socially relevant and artistic lyrics of Kannada poets are choreographed here. The rare blend of Bavageetha and Bharatanatyam at the institution has lead to the choreography of a highly innovative Dance type called "Bhavanruthya" in which the dancers perform in a graceful rhythmic passion.

Chitranatya

Apart from good music and dance chitranaatya promotes and produces good literature also. The play collection "Rangashale" and audio CD "Kempu balunu maththu ithara shishugeethegaluaa" are good examples for this.

Chitranaatya came into existence in 1991 with a single student, when our guru L.G.Meera started teaching Bharathanatyam. Then onwards the institution has given Bharathanatyam and Bhavanruthya lessons to many students at low cost or no cost. Considerable number of students has passed in junior and senior level Bharathanatyam examinations conducted by KSEEB (Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board). The students also participate in many dance programs conducted by Chitranaatya and in their respective schools. After 19 years of our guru’s hard work, Chitranaatya got registered as a public trust in January 2010. During the span of more than a decade, Chitranaatya has a glorious history of training hundreds of students at low cost or no cost, presenting many awe inspiring dance dramas.

One of the distinct features of Dr. L.G.Meera's teaching method is the creation of an intensive learning environment where the students not only learn art but also social responsibility and leadership qualities. Here they become the change they want to see.
